  • Oral History Interview with the Rev. Canon Joseph N. Green
    Father Green entered the graduate summer program of the School of Theology of the University of the South to pursue a Masters of Sacred Theology in 1959 along with his cousin William O’Neal. They each received the degree in 1965, becoming the first African Americans to receive a degree of any kind from the University of the South. Father Green also had a long and distinguished career in the Episcopal Church, most of his years serving Grace Episcopal Church in Norfolk, Virginia. He also was a civil rights leader in tidewater Virginia and served in elected public office in Norfolk.
